Are Filipinos Asian or Pacific Islanders?

Hi I'm Filipino and my cousin and I were fighting if Filipino people are Asian or Pacific Islanders.I said they were Asians because they are located is South of Asia.And he also said that Japanese people also wouldn't be Asian they are located in the Pacific too.And Filipino people look Chinese.European,Japanese,Korean and Filipino.So are they Asian or Pacific Islanders? (Also if Japanese people are Asian or Pacific Islanders.)And who is right? Thanks!
