K back to what you asked about. Yes, you will need to find a way to backup anything you want to keep. You must be certain that if you are changing from a 32 bit os to a 64 bit os that you're programs will be compatible. Most programs aren't in their own right, you will have to find different versions. But if you are upgrading to the same type then no worries. But yes, please make sure you back up anything you want to keep.
