Why can't the Islanders play in Madison Square Garden?

According to Wikipedia MSG presently hosts 320 events a year. That leaves 45 open days to fit in 41 home games. And I'm pretty sure that at least half of those days will be outside the hockey season. So the answer is because it's full.
