Why have so many Pacific Islanders been suckered into such a phony religion as Mormonism?

Do you think it has something to do with the American presence in the Pacific during WW2? Because Mormonism is without doubt a typical American religion. It's as phony as a b-grade Hollywood movie and as capitalistic as McDonald's. Have you heard of 'cargo cults'? 'Cargo cults' developed on some Pacific Islands during WW2 when the US air force mistakenly dropped military supplies on the wrong Islands. You see, US airmen were apparently lousy navigators. But the people on these islands thought the supplies were gifts from the gods. Do you think this mistaken worship of Americans made them more susceptible to a phony American religion, like Mormonism, when the war ended and Mormon proselytizers went there to spread their viral religion?
